Stripes bounce back

Marsaxlokk 1, Birkirkara 2 Moises Avila Perez's spectacular goal helped the Stripes to bounce back to winning ways under the watchful eyes of Paul Zammit, linked with a swift return to Birkirkara after the sacking of Patrick Curmi earlier this week. Both teams came into the game off a destabilising week. Marsaxlokk suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat against Floriana while Birkirkara dismissed coach Patrick Curmi on Wednesday and put Peter Pullicino in temporary charge. Late President remembered

Late President Guido de Marco was this evening remembered at Azad in a celebration for which former Italian foreign minister Gianni de Michelis was keynote speaker. He said of Prof. de Marco: "Guido was a great Maltese, a great European and a great citizen of the world." Mr de Michelis who described Prof. de Marco as his friend, recalled when, in 1990 he had received Malta's bid to join the European Union from Prof. de Marco, then foreign minister. The commemoration also included speeches from historian Henry Frendo, Tourism Parliamentary Secretary Mario de Marco, the late President's son MEP David Casa and Azad president and MEP Simon Busuttil. The event was attended by Foreign Minister Tonio Borg, President Emeritus Eddie Fenech Adami, ambassadors and members of the de Marco family.
